One of the big things I want to do with this Website is to encourage people. One of the ways I believe we are encouraged is by being introduced to people whose lives convey encouragement. One such person is Joni Eareckson Tada. She may not be well known in some circles But, Joni has written countless books, one of which she wrote about her accident that left her a quadriplegic and how she was able to overcome depression and how she found meaning and a new purpose even with quadriplegia. Before all the books Joni had discovered she was a talented artist learning to paint with her mouth as part of her therapy. When Billy Graham came to her with the idea of making her book “Joni” into a movie, Joni had played herself adding to her list of accomplishments that of being an actor.
All those accomplishments would be enough for anyone. Yet, not for Joni. Her own struggles with her disability made her aware that countless people also struggle with a disability. From her kitchen table she started Joni and Friends a ministry and outreach that has grown to have a Family Camp where families come together for a week of encouragement and fun. There is a program that gives away wheelchairs to some of the poorest people around the world called Wheels for the World. When she saw our service man and women coming home with disabilities she created a Family Camp aimed at supporting and encouraging them.
If you wonder if all this has gone to her head, I can tell you having talked with her she is one of the most down to earth people I have ever known. I have also taken part in the ministry as a volunteer at a local office and I have been a team member on 2 Wheels for the World teams. I have also been a part of many Family Camps.
If you need a lift today, I encourage you to visit my Websites to Checkout and click on the Joni and Friends link and learn more.
