Cactus from my yard

It Got Away

I try each day to spend a little time outside. What that means is that I am watering the trees and the other plants and cactus. It gives me time to think as well as forces me to slow down. I have started to see just how much life there is in one’s backyard and how that life interacts and how they support one another. Birds rest in the desert brush. Hummingbirds flash about looking for the nectar from the small desert flowers.

Life is all around us if we will but look for it and yes, we need to slow down. Life it seems always is forcing us to speed up and sometimes it is so gradual of a force that we fail to realize the pace is picking up. I realized that it had when I was talking with my friend telling my friend I had wished I would have accomplished more in the list I had made for the week. My friend had stopped me and recounted all I had done in just a little over a month. I had lost sight of all that and had instead gotten focused on accomplishing the next thing on the list and not realizing that the list of things never ends. More importantly, I realized that the list of stuff wasn’t all that important in the big picture of things.

So, I gave myself some grace, put the list away which does have a few more things added to it and I headed to the backyard to water the trees and the other plants and cactus and thought about what needless weight we carry and stress we bare.
